British superbike brand Triumph Motorcycles is considering to sell in India more bikes imported from Thailand in the short term via FTA route as locally assembled bikes are proving to be costlier due to customs duty 'anomaly', a senior company official said. We want to continue to invest in the Mansear plant and utilise the facility, because sooner than later this anomaly is going to get corrected." We have the capability..7-22 lakh in India. We would have to try and align it in the second half of the financial year and see how to make a good mix of FTA and CKD going forward. Directionally, if you have to promote production in India, assembly is the first step and then go for manufacturing," he further said.According to the company, after custom duty on CKD (completely knocked down) imports of motor cycles was hiked to 15 per cent from 10 per cent in the Budget for 2017-18, assembling in India has become costlier as compared to importing directly from Thailand.
